Item Description: Vintage Royal Albert Old Country Roses Bone China Dinner and Tea Set with 22k gold trim. Now considered the most popular china pattern in the world, Old Country Roses came into being in 1962 when the post World War II pottery industry was struggling. By it’s instant popularity, it provided a needed boost to Royal Albert, a pottery owned and operated by Thomas C. Wild and Sons, Ltd. Who had operated it since 1896. The design was a result of years of work by Harold Holdcroft who said; We decided to incorporate all the ingredients we knew would be acceptable, richness of colour, softness of colour, good quality and a good value look. All these qualities are incorporated in the pattern. It has lush deep red roses, warmth from the tea roses, delicacy from the bluish pink and an overall softening off of the pattern by using a shade of soft warm green. Enhanced by the elegant traditional Royal Albert Montrose shape and the attractive scalloped edges finished in 22k gold, from the twist and curl of the teacup handles to the fluted trim on the teapot lid…. The attention to detail has contributed to a superb original design. Pieces from the original production of Royal Albert Old Country Roses, especially in mint condition, are hard to come by. The tureen is free of chip, crack, crazing and the gilt is intact on the rim and handle. It is first quality and of course, made in England. Here today for your consideration we have this beautiful vintage Royal Albert large teapot, produced in their most popular design Old Country Roses and bearing the original back-stamp for production between 1962 and 1974. This lovely bone china piece is in good used condition having no chips, cracks, crazing or repair. There are a couple of utensil marks and some minor gild and pattern wear from occasional use, to be expected. There doesn’t appear to be any serious wear to the gilding, and the pot pours beautifully. A very nice piece of Old Country Roses for the collector. The teapot stands about 19cm tall and measures 25cm handle-to-spout. Unpacked, it weighs in at 833gms. Don’t miss out! To see my other items!
