Royal Albert is the world’s most popular bone china, loved for its inherent beauty and unique designs. The success of Royal Albert’s royal association dates back to the late 1800s. In 1896, Thomas Wild took over the Albert Works near Stoke-on-Trent – the factory named the year before to commemorate the birth of Prince Albert. In 1897, Thomas Wild & Co produced a range of commemorative wares to celebrate Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee: an association with royalty that continues to this day and which led to the name of Royal Albert. Dinnerware pattern was designed by Harold Holdcroft and launched in 1962. It truly captures summer in the English countryside, taking both rich and soft colours, combined with lush deep red roses, the warmth of tea roses blush pink, softened by a wash of dark green foliage. The soup coupes measure 4.5″/11.5cms in diameter and the stands 6.25″/16cms. Backstamps read “Old Country Roses / ROYAL ALBERT / BONE CHINA / ENGLAND / (C) 1962 ROYAL ALBERT LTD”.
